Hop in! Where you headed?

I aim this blog at Hitchhiking stories, obviously. However, you can take that in the 'poetic' sense, as we are 'snakes' in time and the asphalt rivers take us to many places, as well as 'places'..

scattered throughout are videos, music, and intermittent stories I have to tell.

HOW TO DEVELOP YOUR FACULTIES
The Buddha was talking with Uttara, a young pupil of the bhramin Parasariya:
-Uttara, does Parasariya teach you how to develop your faculties?
-Yes, Master Gotama, he does teach us how to develop our faculties
-How does he do this?
-We are taught not to see material forms with the eye nor to hear sounds with the
ear. That is how to develop the faculties.
-But in that case, Uttara, the blind and the deaf must be in total development of their
faculties, for the blind does not see and the deaf does not hear.
Uttara was silent.
-Well, Uttara, Parasariya teaches you one way and here we teach a different way.
Let me tell you what we teach. When a monk sees a form with the eye, usually a
feeling of liking and disliking come into being. The monk then understand that
liking or disliking has arisen but that either one is not inevitable but is conditioned
and dependent on causes. So he heads for a state in which there is equanimity
and finds that in so doing the liking and disliking has vanished and he sees things
as they are. That is how he develop his faculties. That is what we teach.

Inga Wiehl's new book -- HEARTSTRINGS

Please buy this book by finding it in my aStore to the right of this blog column. I have many other good books for sale there as well. Thanks.

Inga taught at Yakima Valley Commuity College where she and my mother became quite good friends. Through her husband, Richard's, efforts I was allowed to avoid having my head blown off in the Vietnam war.

I just went to a reading in Yakima by author Inga Wiehl from her new book, "HEARTSTRINGS: A TALE OF DANISH LOYALTY, RESISTANCE, AND HOMECOMING" which she tells the packed, standing room only, audience of attentive listeners she'd truthfully begun working on before her first publication, "When Professional Women Retire", written with Ellie Heffernan.

I look forward to reading this book. From the excerpts Inga chose to read this is my impression: Using letters from the time period between relatives, she takes the reader back to WWI Denmark and invites him/her into the hearts and minds of people -especially her grandmother - who had difficult decisions to make because of the war. Decisons both personal and national.
Inga's use of the senses brings one into the personally sacred moments that lure your conviction that you are there.
Despite what may sound like a superficial attempt to compare for the sake of their shared heritage, I have to say I felt an echo of Dag Hammarskjold's "MARKINGS", which book, to me, has the nearly anthropomorphic ability to induce my mind into a zen-like silence. All I know is I want to 'hear' more of it.

PLEASE CHECK OUT INGA'S FACEBOOK PAGE AS WELL TO LEARN ABOUT HER ACCOMPLISHMENTS AS WELL AS HER DAUGHTER, LIS'S.
...not to forget about her son, Christopher wiehl, who is a successful television actor.

Again, Please buy this book by exploring my store which is accessible to the right of these words you are now reading....
note: while i'm trying to make sure it's on this list please refer to this url to explore my store. Inga's book is here.

Ruby's Arms (Tom Waits)

I will leave behind all of my clothes,
I wore when i was with you,
all I need's my railroad boots
and my leather jacket
as i say goodbye to Ruby's arms
although my heart is breaking,
i will steal away out through your
blinds, for soon you will be waking.

The morning light has washed your face
and everything is turning blue now,
hold on to your pillow case
there's nothing i can do now,
as i say goodbye to Ruby's arms,
you'll find another soldier,
and i swear to god by christmastime,
there'll be someone else to hold you.

The only thing i'm taking is
the scarf off of your clothesline,
i'll hurry past your chest of drawers
and your broken wind chimes,
as i say goodbye
i'll say goodbye,
say goodbye to Ruby's arms.

I will feel my way down the darkened hall,
and out into the morning,
the hobos at the freightyards
have kept their fires burning,
so jesus christ this goddamn rain,
will someone put me on a train,
i'll never kiss your lips again
or break your heart,
as i say goodbye
i'll say goodbye,
say goodbye to Ruby's arms.

Two Highways

Two Highways Lyrics  (Alison Krauss)

Two highways lay before me, which one will I choose
Down one lane I'd find happiness and down the other I would lose
There is no one that I can trust, I must decide alone
My decision is an awful one, which road will take me home

(chorus)
In the mornin' would I wake to find, down the wrong road I have gone
Will I hear the melodies I've searched for oh so long
Only time will tell if I have made a loser's choice
And though sadness cries my inner soul, goodbye lover moans my voice

Perils, there are many, as I set out on my way
If I lose your love I know that I can call it back someday
Rambler, lonely rambler, just รข€˜cause anyplace is home
Nashville, lights how you have always shined

Wishing now that you had found a word or two to say
But the mornin' came and we both knew my eyes gave it away
As I kissed your cheeks and said goodbye I thought only time will tell
And you can't draw water from an empty well

In the mornin' would I wake to find, down the wrong road I have gone
Will I hear the melodies I've searched for oh so long
Only time will tell if I have made a loser's choice
And though sadness cries my inner soul, goodbye lover moans my voice

DEDICATED TO THE ONE I LOVE

(Pauling-Bass) While I'm far away from you my baby I know it's hard for you my baby Because it's hard for me my baby And the darkest hour is just before dawn Each night before you go to bed my baby Whisper a little prayer for me my baby And tell all the stars above This is dedicated to the one I love (love can never be exactly like we want it to be) I could be satisfied knowing you love me (and there's one thing I want you to do especially for me) And it's something that everybody needs While I'm far away from you my baby Whisper a little prayer for me my baby Because it's hard for me my baby And the darkest hour is just before dawn If there's one thing I want you to do especially for me Then it's something that everybody needs Each night before you go to bed my baby Whisper a little prayer for me my baby And tell all the stars above This is dedicated to the one I love This is dedicated to the one I love This is dedicated to the one I love This is dedicated to the one I love

You are my Sunshine

You Are My Sunshine
My only sunshine.
You make me happy
When skies are grey.
You'll never know, dear,
How much I love you.
Please don't take my sunshine away

The other nite, dear,
As I lay sleeping
I dreamed I held you in my arms.
When I awoke, dear,
I was mistaken
And I hung my head and cried.

You are my sunshine,
My only sunshine.
You make me happy
When skies are grey.
You'll never know, dear,
How much I love you.
Please don't take my sunshine away.

I'll always love you
And make you happy
If you will only say the same
But if you leave me
To love another
You'll regret it all some day;

You are my sunshine,
My only sunshine.
You make me happy
When skies are grey.
You'll never know, dear,
How much I love you.
Please don't take my sunshine away.

You told me once, dear
You really loved me
And no one else could come between
But now you've left me
And love another
You have shattered all my dreams;

You are my sunshine,
My only sunshine.
You make me happy
When skies are grey.
You'll never know, dear,
How much I love you.
Please don't take my sunshine away.

Louisiana my Louisiana
the place where I was borne.
White fields of cotton
-- green fields clover,
the best fishing
and long tall corn;

You are my sunshine,
My only sunshine.
You make me happy
When skies are grey.
You'll never know, dear,
How much I love you.
Please don't take my sunshine away.
Crawfish gumbo and jambalaya
the biggest shrimp and sugar cane,
the finest oysters
and sweet strawberries
from Toledo Bend to New Orleans;

You are my sunshine,
My only sunshine.
You make me happy
When skies are grey.
You'll never know, dear,
How much I love you.
Please don't take my sunshine away.

DON'T BE CRUEL

Elvis Presley Don’t Be Cruel Lyrics

(Words & music by otis blackwell - elvis presley)

You know I can be found,
Sitting home all alone,
If you can't come around,
At least please telephone.
Don't be cruel to a heart that's true.

Baby, if I made you mad
For something I might have said,
Please, lets forget the past,
The future looks bright ahead,
Don't be cruel to a heart that's true.
I don't want no other love,
Baby it's just you I'm thinking of.

Don't stop thinking of me,
Don't make me feel this way,
Come on over here and love me,
You know what I want you to say.
Don't be cruel to a heart that's true.
Why should we be apart?
I really love you baby, cross my heart.

Lets walk up to the preacher
And let us say I do,
Then you'll know you'll have me,
And I'll know that I'll have you,
Don't be cruel to a heart that's true.
I don't want no other love,
Baby it's just you I'm thinking of.

Don't be cruel to a heart that's true.
Don't be cruel to a heart that's true.
I don't want no other love,
Baby it's just you I'm thinking of.

Danse Cambeau does Dylan Big Band Style in Portland..anyone remember?:1982-ish

I even met the guy once, but i kick myself for missing the show. I think it was at the Baghdad theater...did it used to be on or right off Burnside? I think that's where he played. I forgot his real name, which he introduced himself to me with, but his stage name was Danse Cambeau. I heard the ads on radio even over in Seaside where I lived.

He wrote all the parts to a Big Band style stage band, yes, like Glenn Miller-style, ...something like:  " an evening of Bob Dylan, arranged by Danse Cambeau" and he spoke with his fake-french accent. Now I wish i would've seen it. I can't find anything on the internet about it.
